tucker had a series of seizures this morning and is in the hospital for now. we think his blood sugar bottomed out somehow- it was only 13 when we got here. they've got him on a glucose drip and gave him atavan for the seizures. he has been non responsive since noon our time. i'll update more when I can.

Birth is a play based on over one hundred interviews Karen Brody conducted with mothers across America who gave birth between 2000-2004. It tells the true stories of 8 women painting a portrait of how low-risk, educated women are giving birth in America today.

In the play we meet Jillian, a stay-at-home mother of four children, who always sees the humor in life, especially in her mixed-bag of birth experiences; and Beth, a 35-year-old successful, high-powered computer systems manager from New Jersey who confidently planned a cesarean.

We are introduced to Vanessa, a buyer for a major department store who never had a doubt that she wanted an epidural. We hear from Janet, a lesbian in her 40s, who despite her feminist background wanted a medicalized birth, fearing the safety of herself and the baby; and Lisa, an African-American who felt intimidated and used by her midwives and the medical system after her birth.

We get to know Sandy, who thought birth was just one day, but found out that having an emergency c-section on that day changed her world. We hear Natalie's intimate story of physical betrayal; and Amanda, an athletic, confident stay-at-home mother who believed her birthing mantra--My Body Rocks--gave her the attitude she needed to give birth naturally in the hospital.

Moving between first-person monologues, some dialogue, and the voices these women heard on the day they gave birth, Birth confronts, what City Lights Theater Company has called, "The naked truth about childbirth in America."

i honestly cannot remember the last time i had to pull over to puke in the bushes, but miss peanutmama was so kind and gracious about it, i didn't feel as bad as i could have.

since tucker's over 1 year old now and can't tolerate cow's milk and needs the nutrients and fat that rice milk doesn't provide, the doctor wants to put him on neocate 1+ and reevaluate him in 6 months. i still don't know if he'll be allowed other foods in those 6 months (i'm thinking organic turkey would be pretty easy to tolerate and low on the allergen scale) or if we'll be totally relying on the neocate 1+ for his nutrition and the rice snacks for oral practice. the neocate 1+ runs $80 a case, with 15 packets in a case. each packet makes 6.5 ounces of food and he'd be going through about 15 cases a month. insurance is balking at the $1200 a month price tag, even though they paid for the regular neocate for the last 4 months without batting an eye. i seriously hate the insurance company, i really do.

i need more ideas for foods for the tuck monkey- there is only so much applesauce and rice cereal that he can take. do any of my gluten-free friends know of a complete-rice cracker or puff or anything? tucker can't have corn and all i've found locally has corn syrup/meal in them.

on a lighter note, i managed to snag some photos of his growth/polyp/tumor from the ENT doctor. they are pretty cool. the growth is about the same size as half a pinky finger.

okay. matt had his surgery this morning, but when they placed his breathing tube, they found a growth in his throat. while it doesn't look like cancer, it *is* endangering his breathing. they haven't been able to remove his breathing tube yet, because they are scared he won't be able to breath on his own. tomorrow morning, they are taking him back to the OR to try to remove the tube and if he cant' breathe, they'll do a tracheotomy. they can't cut the growth out right now because they can't manipulate his head due to his broken neck.

i'll be able to talk tomorrow to the ladt in charge of transfers; i really need to get him home as soon as he can travel.

andi, i will call you tomorrow to talk about travelling. i'm not sure what time and i might forget, so give me a call if i don't get in touch with you by the evening. my cell is 336.253.5114 -- i might not be able to answer it, but i will call you back.

matt's leg looks a lot better now, the incisions are really small. he's going to loose a chunk of his ear- the piece they tried to reattach didn't have enough blood flow and it looks like it's dying.

i'll update again when i know more. thanks for all the kind words, ladies.

i'm in charlotte right now, waiting to board a plane to memphis. matt has been moved to icu and will have surgery on his leg in the morning... he broke his thigh bone and needs to have a rod and pins put in it so he doesn't have to be in traction for 3 months. his ankle is broken, too, so that will likely delay his healing a bit. will update more when I hear.
